ootd: fairytale

Salam alaikum!

Today's outfit entry is really special to me because its the first outfit that I bought the fabric myself, designed what I had in mind and tailored it for a special day (:

It looks like a peplum top but its really not one because peplums tend to end a bit higher. Maybe in the middle of your behind? I didn't want a short top so I opted for a length that to me, is just so apt. Not too short, not too long.

Why?

Cos I want the top to be something I can wear with pants as well, so I didn't want it to be too short.
I also love that I can reuse the skirt with other tops as well (:

and the buttons!

I loveeeeee buttons. They're just so cute hehe. If I could, I'd opt for heart shaped ones hehe.
I wanted it to go all the way back and also, some on my sleeves. I chose non-functional ones though because to be honest, I'm too lazy to unbutton one by one if I want to take the top off hehe.

There's a contrast in textures too because I chose an English cotton fabric for the top and a silky fabric for the mermaid skirt.

If I do pursue fashion one day, I'd love to design clothes. Wouldn't that be wonderful? (:

I'm flying off tonight so I queued up some travel ootd entries to be published! See you when I see you!

ootd: Tartan

Salam alaikum!

Hope you've been having a great week so far!

Today's outfit features a pattern I've never worn before but I've always been madly in love with! I think aside from pastels, I am a big fan of anything preppy. Come to think about it, most of the time preppy + pastels go together, what with pastel oxford shirts and light brown pants. Gosh so much love @.@

Now now, what do you call this pattern?

I've heard this fabric called a variety of names. From checkered to tartan to plaid and many many more!
So now, let's come to a conclusion shall we? (:

A plaid is a tartan kilt.
A tartan is the pattern on that kilt.

I think one important factor that led to this confusion is the fact that this pattern is highly associated to Scotland, and you know, Scotland = land of kilts.

This outfit was particularly inspired by this photo.

It screams something from B for Waldorf!
(if you watched this week's episode, Blair's designs were spectacular!)

So so gorgeous. The blue bows and the scalloped structured top.
Now, if only I knew how to sew....

It was raining today so instead of a cream blouse or a crisp oxford shirt, I thought hey since I need something warm and comfy, why not play with textures and throw on a lace pullover.

Finally, complete the outfit with a simple pair of wedges.

Nadya

ootd & room shots.

Salam alaikum!

Ahhhhhhhh. I've been so busy! I have no exams this semester but the amount of work I have to do for my research paper is crazy! I've changed topics for three times and its really frustrating because every time I change to a new one, I have to restart all over again! So fickle minded T.T

So here's squeezing in a super short entry!

I've never been a palazzo pants person....but this chiffon, fully lined one is so naiiiiiiise, I feel like wearing it over and over again! Can't wait to release it on shopsghijabgirl and some other super nice new items hehe. Of course, I am hopeless as usual. I promised myself that I only get to keep one for every collection.....but...I kept most of them. Hey, don't judge! Haha! You have no idea how hard it is to pack items for you guys and not getting to keep any for yourself ok! Heartpain! Hehe!

Its fully lined, non sheer, elastic waistband so I can say that its free sized (:
Love love love! My mum thought it was a maxi skirt hehe.

aaaand here's some pictures of my room! I know some of you girls have been requesting/emailing me for a room tour so you can get some ideas for your room but er, I don't think that will happen anytime soon. I'm okay with sharing some snapshots of my room though! (:

Most of the items are from Ikea (hahaha hello ikea singapore, sponsor me okay I keep promoting you everywhere! :D) but if you want to know where I get specific items, you can always formspring or email me! If I'm not busy, I'll always take time to reply my readers! (:

To say I love my room would be an understatement.

I am truly, madly, unconditionally and irrecvocably in love HAHA.

I mean, really, after such a long day out, or a stressful day at school, I really look forward to coming back to my room and just chill. All the troubles float away immediately...

Recipe: Decadent Raspberry and Chocolate Tart

Salam alaikum girls!

Sharing with you my latest favourite dessert. I swear, if you try this, you will want to have it again and again and again. Every single time I make this, I'll end up eating half or even more of it T.T

Its perfection, guys =D

Ingredients:

11/2 cups of chocolate biscuit crumbs
1 tablespoon of sugar
1/2 cup of melted butter
1 1/4 cup of semisweet/milk chocolate chips
1 cup of heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 cups of raspberries

Preheat your oven to 175 degrees.

Blend the raspberries and pass it through a sieve. This is important to get rid of the raspberry seeds.
Raspberries are super expensive so I would understand if you'd like to sub it with strawberries. However, if you're using strawberries, use only 1 cup. Strawberries tend to be juicier and so, the mixture will be runnier if you used 2 (:

In a bowl, mix the crushed chocolate biscuit crumbs, sugar & melted butter.
I used Marie's Chocolate Biscuits, you can use any biscuit you like (:

You know its mixed well when the texture is of wet sand.

Press the mixture into a springform/tart tin and make sure that you press it evenly. You can use the bottom of a glass. Refrigerate it for about 20 minutes to let it set.

Then, bake it for about 10 minutes. Let it cool.

Place the chocolate chips in a bowl. I used a mixture of semisweet and milk chocolate chips.

Place heavy cream in a saucepan and let it simmer. Pour the heavy cream over the chocolate chips and let it sit for a few minutes.

I bought a litre of heavy cream from Phoon Huat cos its more worth it. If I'm not wrong its just about 7 bucks. The only problem is that its a large amount so after awhile, I can't think of anything else to make and the leftover goes to waste. But you can get yours in a small bottle from NTUC/Cold Storage. Expensive, but you don't waste anything heh.

Stir until the chocolate chips incorporate with the heavy cream.

Stir in the raspberry puree and salt.

Pour it on the baked mixture. You can put in whole raspberries if you want.
Chill it in the fridge for about 2 hours, until the mixture firms up.

Enjoy! (:

Sponsored Review: Hada Labo Arbutin Whitening Lotion

Hi girls!

The kind people from Hada Labo sent me the new Hada Labo Arbutin Whitening Lotion with Nano Formula! Gosh, that was a mouthful! Haha!

I've always been a big fan of their products, as you can see from past entries here and here so I was quite excited to test this one out.

I know what you're thinking! What on earth is arbutin?!
Okay, basically arbutin is an essential ingredient to fight the formation of dark spots and nope, its not anything chemical, its an extract from a natural bearberry plant. This product highlights its specialty of having three benefits in one. Whitening, Moisturizing and Hydration. While previous products only highlight their main content of Hyaluronic Acid, this particular one combines it with Vitamin C and also, Arbutin.

So, you get to do three things with only one-two drops of this lotion.

Fight against dark spots, amazing hydration power and also, enhances the fairness of your skin.

I know we're still quite young and I don't see any visible dark spots on my face. But I'm teaching Geography and it requires me to do a lot of fieldwork, hence I think it is important that I apply something to prevent the sun from damaging my skin. So, if you're always out and about in the sun, I think a combination of sunscreen (important!!!) and the Hada Labo Arbutin Whitening Lotion might do the trick.

I use this product twice a day after cleansing my face. How? Just apply a small bit on your palms, pat onto your skin until it is fully absorbed. As always, I realise that when it comes to Hada Labo's products, a little goes a long way (:

The only pet peeve I have?
I wish there's a bit of fragrance. I loveeeee nice smelling products though I know of some people who dislike fragrances so this might work for you. Nada! No scent at all!

The Hada Labo Arbutin Whitening Lotion can be purchased at Watsons and Guardian for $22.90

You can redeem a free 20ml travel size bottle of this product!

My moist chocolate cupcake filled with salted caramel.
Topped with creamy cheese perfection.
Hearts marzipan to satisfy my craze of anything girly and cutesy (yes, even in baked goodies)
Drizzle of the loveliest salted caramel sauce.

Perfection, guys.
I am tearing as I recall the moment my teeth sank into this lovely concoction.
Of course, must exaggerate a bit ok. Hahahaha!

Escorted by a box of calming tea, they made the perfect Chuck Bass & Blair Waldorf.
Magnificent apart, magic together.

HAHAHAHHAHAHA. I am seriously lol-ing to myself as I'm typing this.

Look at that glistening goodness.
@.@

I bought a litre of heavy cream so I made full use of it.
Made two full jars of caramel sauce and I still have more than 500 ml left!

Got so annoyed coring these chocolate cupcakes! What a tedious process. My friend told me though that I can actually use an apple corer, so you can be smart and buy that first before you bake this ok!

Recipe for Salted Caramel Sauce:
(from here)

Click the link above for the recipe & instructions ok! You MUST watch a video or look at the picture when you're making this cos there are some parts that you may not foresee something happening and then boom, it bubbles like crazy and might overspill. So yes, please look at the pictures and follow the directions CAREFULLY.

There's a very fine line (almost non existent) between burnt caramel and caramel, so you don't want to waste all that good stuff and end up with burnt caramel. Don't be disheartened though cos the first time I made it few months back, I ended up with a whole jar of burnt caramel. This time, I learnt my lesson, followed the instructions to the tee and alhamdulillah, it turned out so good.

Praising myself HAHA but really!
and say Bismillah!! (:
