salam alaikum!

One thing that this OOTD reminded me was, hey, is this a 4th of July look? If you have no idea what on earth I'm talking about, its ok cos it doesn't involve us at all! Haha! Its America's Independence Day so on the 4th of July, they'll dress up in red, white and blue. No no no, I definitely wasn't going for that! It was only after I stepped out of the house, I realised, eh I look like an American flag T.T

Anyways, the look I was actually going for, was something nautical. I love love love stripes. Navy Blue on white, Mustard on white, Red on white! Love it so much! Here's a fun fashion fact! These horizontal stripes first came about because the navy and white striped shirt was the uniform for French sailors way way way back then. Coco Chanel, inspired by the look, introduced this design to the fashion world in her first nautical themed collection in 1917! So ya, there you go! If you ever wondered how did horizontal stripes ever became a fashion trend since y'know, it's not really flattering as compared to vertical stripes (which makes you look slimmer hehe)

What I usually do when it comes to choosing outfits is....I pick the shoe I want to wear for that day first. Then, I plan my outfit according to the shoe hehe. So, since I just received my super awesome Fred Perry nautical-themed shoe, I decided ok hey, let's pretend we're sailors! If you don't know, I love FP shoes because they are just oh so awesome. They're so comfortable (except for the first time you break them out, they hurt like crazy so better get ready your plasters and everything) and they last for very long! I still have my FPs I bought when I was in Year 1 in uni :D

So yes, if you have no idea what to wear. Try that out! Pick your shoe first! Don't know if it works for you but it definitely works for me heh.

Iftar & OOTDs

Salam alaikum!

I met up with Fatin from inmyshawls & Dalillah from aveilofmodesty for iftar at Le Bistro Parisien during Ramadhan! Been wanting to blog about it but I was still editing the pictures hehe. We asked Hanis frm Meem Clothings along too but being the busy businesswoman that she is, couldn't make it! Boooo. Nvm next time Hanis you must come and join us ok!!! (:

It was a lovely girl meet-up session, talking about everything and anything under the sun. I'm usually the kind of person who dislikes awkward moments during conversations so I was super glad that we had none of that sort! We talked allllll the way until it was time to go home!

I think its really nice to meet and talk to fellow Hijabi fashion bloggers because of mainly, our similar interest. Our love for clothes and ootds and variety of styles transcends beyond any other interests in our lives, simply said.

A picture speaks a thousand words right? So, I'll let the pictures do the talking! ;)

You can head over to Fatin's blog for details on her OOTD! :3

OOTD Preppy and Hijab Tutorial

Salam alaikum!

So..the long awaited tutorial is here! Its super simple and have fun trying it out for Eid or for your daily use! (:

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Its been so long since I last did an OOTD entry! I am so in love with this blazer! I got it from a thrift store along with other blazers, I guess I was just lucky on that day. Its quite rare for me to find awesome stuff at thrift stores but this time, I walked away with tonnes of good stuff hehe.

Truth be told, I'm not a fan of backpacks! I find them such a hassle especially when I want to reach out for my wallet/hp and I'm always paranoid that someone will try to steal my stuff and I wouldn't even know cos I can't see it! Hahahhaa paranoid max. Also, its quite unlikely that you'll see me in black and white only. I'm just not used to it heh. I really need a pop of color, hence the glittery gold flats! :)

I'm so excited that Eid is just around the corner! Can't wait to eat all the Hari Raya food and meet my relatives! At the same time, its sad that Ramadhan is leaving us and we'll only meet again next year. Hopefully, insyAllah.

Sponsored: Hada Labo!

Salam alaikum!

I'm sure its no secret that the most popular steps when it comes to taking care of your skin is to cleanse, tone and moisturise. Personally, I often skip the toner and moisturiser because...guilty as charged, I'm lazy. I get home, remove my make up, cleanse my face, that's all. Off I go to zzzzz hehe. No surprise there that I have quite dry skin which is especially made obvious when I put on powder T.T

Koreans are known to slap on all sorts of essence, moisturizer, masks and eye cream on their faces before going to sleep. Its no wonder they're famously known for their flawless skin. How I wish I'm as hardworking as them when it comes to taking care of my skin. Sigh.

But anyways, for the past week, I've been hardworking ok! I've been putting on the Hada Labo SHA Hydrating Lotion everyday before going to sleep and a teensy bit of their Super Hyaluronic Acid Moist Eye Cream. Truthfully, I loveeee Hada Labo's products ever since I bought my first bottle before leaving for China last year. I knew the weather was going to be crazy cold and my skin would go flaky dry so I applied their Hydrating Milk every single day. The thing about Hada Labo products that I love the most is that a little goes a long way. Also, their products are unscented so I'm not irritated by over flowery or perfume-ish scents.

The new product is an improved version of their previous Hydrating Lotion. It is able to penetrate areas deep deep deep within your skin cos of its "Nano"- sized molecule. Not only that, your skin is able to absorb it better! The clear, watery- like liquid is the same as the previous one though so no changes in the form of the hydrating lotion. I love that it does not leave an oily residue because I'm definitely not a fan of anything that makes my face look oily, no matter how you claim you're moisturising! Haha!

Another product that I was sent is the SHA Moist Eye Cream ($21.90 from Watsons). I generally stay away from all sorts of eye cream because I used to apply it and I realised after some time, milia seeds began to form on my eyelids! Rich eye creams tend to cause milia seeds because its too rich to be absorbed and clogs your sweat ducts. The most irritating thing about milia seeds, there is no way you can get rid of them :( So, to be honest, I was quite skeptical about this product at first.

As you girls know, the skin around our eyes are really sensitive. Rub too much? Wrinkles. Not enough sleep? Eyebags. I also read that the best way to apply eye cream is to use your ring finger because it gives the least amount of pressure as compared to your other fingers (: Not sure how true that is, but you can google it up!

So anyways, this eye cream is very very very light! I'm very careful about how much I use and only apply a tiny pea-sized amount! So far, so good. I check everyday for milia seeds and so far, alhamdulillah, none! However, its still too early to see the improvements it has made but I do hope that with continuous regular usage, the skin around my eye area will be brighter, smoother and well-hydrated (:

Sponsored: Heroine Make and OOTD

Salam alaikum!

I've been meaning to blog about this event I was invited to several weeks ago. I'm not usually an eye make up person because I'm usually lazy to remove them hehe. Really! Eye make up can be quite a hassle sometimes (esp when you want to take wudhu and all T.T) but every first day of Hari Raya, I will surely put it on (cos you know, you want to look pretty and gorgeous right hehe)

To be honest, I've never heard of Heroine Make before this event but now that I've tried their products, I can't help but check out their stuff every now and then at Watsons! So..if you're looking for an awesome mascara, eyeliner or mascara remover, you should seriously consider Heroine Make (:

First, their stuff really does wonders, I'm not kidding! Before the event, they actually measured the size of our eyes. After trying out their products, they measured our eyes again and whaddya know, all of us had an increase of a number of cms just by using their eyeliner and mascara. Shows how much difference it makes to your eyes!

So I went home and tried out the stuff they sponsored! First up is their Long and Curl Mascara ($21.90). Guys, its super amazing. I didn't even have to use an eyelash curler! Non-smudge, waterproof and it really lengthens your eyelash. Not only that, it contains royal jelly extract, rosa canina fruit oil and camelia seed oil which apparently are awesome lash conditioning products!

I think this is mainly because of the small brush. It really helped me to reach the finest lashes at the corner of my eyes which most of the time, I ignore when I'm using other mascaras. Can't reach them without poking my eye leading to a waterfall of tears and me regretting! Why did I ever decide to put on mascara T.T But no such thing now with Heroine Make's mascara wheehee (Y)

and if you loveeeeeee to put on eyeliner. Winged-tip or cat-eyed and all, they also have their very sharp tipped eyeliner. I like!

and Finally, this is the best product for us, Muslim girls! I know we all face the problem of having to remove our make up properly before our prayers. This Mascara Remover by Heroine Make ($14.90) really helps to make it less of a chore! No more tugging your eyelashes, it cares and conditions your eyelashes and is also gentle and non-stinging to the eyes. You just need to brush it on your mascara covered eyelashes, take a cotton pad and swipe it. Tada! Gone! Love it to bits!

and because its been so long since I last did an OOTD entry!

Recipe: Macarons

Salam alaikum! (:

How's your Ramadhan? Hope you're doing well, I've been catching up with friends during iftar sessions and bonding with my family during tarawikh and jamaah prayers for Maghrib & Isyak, I truly hope that as far as I can, I'll try to make full use of this blessed month (:

So this Ramadhan, I've baked two items. One is a no-bake oreo cheesecake and the recent one, macarons. Guys, let me tell you something. Making macarons was so nerve-wrecking, it was as if I was walking on a land mine. I'm not kidding! Haha! The amount of accuracy and precision required is far beyond any other times I've baked. It doesn't help that every single website or food blog talk about how its so easy to mess things up. I was really afraid of getting cracked or flat macarons and then all my hardwork will go to waste but I braced myself and went Bismillah, I can do this! Hehe.

Before that, I read through carefully this Guide to Baking Macarons provided by FoodNouveau. So many things to take note of! I do recommend that you give this a quick read through before you start (:

In this picture, I didn't pipe the filling cos I had it for sahur and I didn't feel like eating anything too sweet but I made a nutella ganache for the filling (:

Here's the recipe:

For the shells:
90 gr egg whites (about 3)
30 gr granulated sugar
200 gr powdered sugar
110 gr almonds (blanched/slivered)
pink food gel coloring

For the whites: the day before (24hrs), separate your eggs and store the whites at room temperature in a covered container. If you want to use 48hrs (or more) egg whites, you can store them in the fridge. In a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, whip the egg whites to a foam, gradually add the sugar until you obtain a glossy meringue. Do not overbeat your meringue or it will be too dry. Combine the almonds and powdered sugar in a food processor and give them a good pulse until the almonds are finely ground. Add them to the meringue, give it a quick fold to break some of the air and then fold the mass carefully until you obtain a batter that flows like lava or a thick ribbon. Give quick strokes at first to break the mass and slow down. The whole process should not take more than 50 strokes. Test a small amount on a plate: if the tops flattens on its own you are good to go. If there is a small beak, give the batter a couple of turns.

Fill a pastry bag fitted with a plain tip with one of the batters and pipe small rounds (1.5 inches in diameter) onto parchment paper lined baking sheets (I used a silpat). Preheat the oven to 280F. Let the macarons sit out for 30 minutes to an hour to harden their shells a bit and bake for 20-22 minutes, depending on their size. Let cool.

Once baked and if you are not using them right away, store them in an airtight container out of the fridge for a couple of days or in the freezer. To fill: pipe or spoon about 1 big tablespoon in the center of one shell and top with another one.

I also found a template you can place under your baking sheet (: Click here.

Good luck trying! (:
